Cops Can Read Your Text Messages Without a Warrant

An appeals court in Washington State has upheld the conviction of a drug buyer who was entrapped after the police seized his dealer’s cell phone. The detective text messaged the client after finding other texts suggesting he was the dealer’s client. The court rejected the client’s argument that the state’s use of his text messages on the dealer’s phone violated Washington State’s privacy act.
