Billions of Dollars and Millions of Guns [Infographic]
Why is it so hard to enact any kind of gun law? Because they interfere with a massively profitable arms industry. The continuing debate over Second Amendment rights and gun control have overlooked the fact that the real issue is how much money is at stake. Americans buy more guns than anyone else on the planet, making the U.S. the target market for the arms industry.
The gun corporations bankroll the NRA, according to a report by the Violence Policy Center. In turn, the NRA pursues a strategy of using litigation to eliminate gun-safety laws one at a time, which increases the sales and profits of the arms industry that funds the NRA. The biggest promoter of gun sales is NRA chief Wayne LaPierre, who is paid an annual salary close to a million dollars.
