Supreme Court Announces Key Decisions this Week [Radio]

Posted June 24, 2013 in Government Your Personal Rights by Editor-in-Chief Larry Bodine was interviewed this morning on WBBA (820 AM) News Talk Florida, in Tampa, on the decisions that the U.S. Supreme Court is releasing this week. Larry discusses four key decisions that cover affirmative action in college admissions, gay marriage and the Voting Rights Act.

He discusses Fisher v. University of Texas, where a white, female applicant, Abigail Fisher, accused the school of reverse discrimination in denying her admission. He also reviews the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and Proposition 8 cases, where the high court is looking at the equal protection clause of the Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Gay couples are arguing they are entitled to be treated the same as any other people regarding their rights to marry.

Finally, Larry also explains the Supreme Court is looking at whether the Voting Rights Act is a law that still needs to be on the books.
