In Glendale, Ariz., There’s No Going Back
Some may argue that motor vehicles are built with a reverse gear for practical reasons. But is it right to sacrifice safety for practicality?
Of course, some will tell you that multiple mirrors, newfangled rear-facing cameras and old-fashioned looking over the shoulder makes it reasonably safe. But you’re driving backwards. If you were meant to do that, they’d install the seats facing that way!
Glendale, Ariz., may be the only community in the United States with enough sense to legally prohibit driving in reverse. Yes, every parking lot or street full of driveways is a never-ending recidivist nightmare from which the local police can never awake, but at least the laws make sense.
Driving in reverse. Can you imagine?
