The conference room of attorney Richard Harris was packed for the second annual conference of the Circle of Legal Trust. The Circle, based out of Rendondo Beach, CA provides a space for attorneys to offer each other mentoring, advice, and other aspects surrounding the legal profession based around its website.
The meeting brought together attorneys from across the country to meet, share experiences and provide an example for their fellow attorneys.
The meeting, which lasted almost eight hours, offered what was described as like a Google Hangout– but in real life! The conference packed the attorneys together to watch different presentations. The hangout was a learning experience, both in the professional and technical sense. The presentations, some live and some over the web offered fifteen to thirty minute features that were followed by a round of incisive questions and answers.
The hangout, which can be found at YouTube here covered several topics, including branding on the internet and integrating the web and social media in the law profession.
"That’s the advantage this brings to you," said one presenter. Information was critical, as the demographics of a changing legal market and in the general population was highlighted. The efforts of many presenters and researchers made light work for the group, which came away poised to compete in the 21st century.
Membership in COLT is free and the advice and crowdsourcing data provided is well worth it. To run operations, special paid services were rolled out to offer a means to pay for the operations of the group while also receive additional exposure through advertising, be eligible for awards elections, and private expert advice.
For more information, please visit the COLT site, which also includes multiple articles about issues that will be facing the legal profession both today and over the coming years. Preparation in tandem with those in the know could prove the key to success.
