Over a half dozen men were arrested Saturday night during a crackdown on prostitution in the Long Beach, Los Angeles Harbor City area when they solicited undercover police officers for sex acts with  policewomen posing as hookers.

The four-hour sting operation by the LAPD targeted suspected "johns" in response to increasing complaints from residents and business owners tired of seeing prostitutes working the streets outside PCH businesses and local motels, Los Angeles police Detective Grant Hiramoto said.

Many Los Angeles police Vice officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Harbor and Southwest divisions joined forces for the sting, placing female officers on the street to pose as prostitutes outside the Harbor Inn near President Avenue. According to one Long Beach Prostitution Defense Attorney , these types of undercover sting operations are commplace and highly successful.

The female officers walked along the sidewalk until customers arriving in cars and on foot, skateboards and bicycles stopped to make a deal to obtain a sex act.

Once they solicited the undercover police they walked through the motel’s parking lot, the men quickly found themselves in handcuffs and on their way to the Los Angeles County Men’s Jail facility.

The individual arrests all took place without incident. With undercover LAPD officers across the street and in the parking lot, arrests occurred as soon as the female officers signaled that the customer had offered cash, known as a solicitation for prostitution..

One man who drove up on a small bicycle in a white jumpsuit that appeared to be some kind of religious costume. After he was handcuffed and taken away in a black-and-white patrol car, his white skullcap was found on the ground where he had been standing. He had apparently dropped it during his prostitution arrest.

According to LAPD, vice detectives planned the sting because neighbors in the area had talked about their children seeing scantily clad women walking the sidewalks, and some motel customers complained of seeing sex acts in motel parking lots. Sometimes people complained of finding used condoms and other indicia of acts of prostitution.

Pacific Coast Highway has long been a spot known for prostitution in Harbor City and Lomita, where sheriff’s deputies recently conducted similar operations and made 15 arrests, all persons likely will speak to an attorney once they are brought to Court.
