Topic: Wrongful Termination
Doctors spend many years studying and working to earn their medical license. The loss of a medical license can be a devastating blow to anyone who has committed their life to practicing medicine.
If your medical license is revoked, you may be wondering what to do next. Fortunately, the revocation of a medical license is not always permanent.
The process to get a medical license restored is lengthy and complex, but it is possible. After a three-year waiting period, you can submit an application to the Department of Education to have your license reinstated. As part of your application, you must obtain five statements from witnesses attesting to why you should have your license restored. Three of these witnesses must have the same degree as you; for example, if you are an MD, at least three of your witnesses must also be MDs.
Once your application is submitted, a hearing will be scheduled to review your case, typically after six months to a year. At this hearing, you will present your reasoning as to why you should get your license back and your witnesses can testify to support this reasoning. Witnesses must be aware of the circumstances whereby you lost your license and affirm that these circumstances have been adequately dealt with and that you are qualified to have your license restored.
After the hearing, which typically lasts no more than a day, the panel will come to a decision as to whether your license should be restored. In order to proceed, the panel must recommend that your license be reinstated. Once this recommendation is made, there is still a lengthy administrative process to be completed, but you will be well on your way to having your medical license restored.
