New Gun Laws In Effect in Colorado, Other States

New restrictive gun laws going into effect this week are facing controversy in Colorado, while other firearm laws go live around the country. Colorado passed two measures this year, one which institutes background checks for all firearm sales, and one which bans high-capacity magazines that hold more than 15 rounds of ammunition. James Holmes To Plead Insanity for Aurora Theater Massacre

Former neuroscience student James Holmes will plead not guilty by reason of insanity for last year’s rampage killing at a theater in Aurora, Colo., his lawyers announced yesterday. Holmes is accused of bursting into a midnight screening of “The Dark Night Rises” on July 20 and opening fire on the crowd, killing 12 and injuring dozens more. Aurora Theater Lawsuits Can Proceed, Judge Rules

Lawsuits may proceed against the owner of the Colorado movie theater that was the scene of last summer’s grisly massacre that left 12 people dead and dozens more injured, a federal judge ruled Wednesday. Prosecutors will seek the death penalty for accused Aurora theater gunman James Holmes, who is facing 166 murder and attempted murder charges for the shooting rampage last July.
