American Idol Contestants Sue for Alleged Race Discrimination

A group of black former American Idol contestants are suing the show, claiming its producers dismissed them because of their race.   Background Checks Targeted Blacks Out of 12 seasons of the show, three black contestants – Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, and Candice Glover ­– and one bi-racial contestant – Jordin Sparks – won. Senate Rejects Bill To Close Gun Background Check Loophole

The U.S. Senate today rejected a bill that would have closed a major loophole in federal gun laws by subjecting firearm purchases made at gun shows and online to background checks. Currently, only purchases made from federally licensed  gun dealers require that buyers be cleared through the  FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System. Senate Judiciary Committee Takes on Gun Violence

Following the executive branch’s announcement of its gun control recommendations earlier in the month, on Jan. 30 the Senate Judiciary Committee took up the problem of gun violence in the United States. Youth Soccer League Sued Over Molester Coach

The parents of a girl who was raped by her youth soccer coach when she was 13 are suing the local soccer league and its national umbrella organization for negligence in failing to adequately vet the coach before allowing him access to children.
