Obamacare Birth Control Mandate May Go to Supreme Court

Employers Defy Obamacare Birth Control Mandate

The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Dec. 28 said the owners of an Illinois construction firm deserved a reprieve from the Obamacare mandate that for-profit employers provide contraception coverage in their health plans.   Temporary Reprieve The owners, Cyril and Jane Korte, are claiming that the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) allows them to avoid the mandate because it violates their religious freedom, according to Reuters. Hobby Lobby Can’t Avoid Health Care Mandate

Following a federal appeals court ruling that Hobby Lobby can’t delay complying with the contraception mandate in the “Obamacare” legislation, the company’s Christian owners say they will appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.  The 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in November denied Lobby owner David Green’s attempt to skirt the mandate, which goes into effect January 1, 2013, based on his argument that it violates his religious freedom.
