Vermont Decriminalizes Marijuana

Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin has signed a bill decriminalizing the possession of small amounts of marijuana. By reducing the penalty for getting caught with up to an ounce of marijuana to a civil fine, Vermont became the 17th state to reclassify simple pot possession. Under the new law, which takes effect July 1, fines for first-time adult offenders would not exceed $200. People under age 21 who are caught with an ounce or less of marijuana would be subject to …

Detroit Voters May Decriminalize Marijuana in November

The Michigan Supreme Court has cleared the way for a marijuana decriminalization measure to appear on city ballots in the coming November election. If voters pass the measure, it will allow adults 21 and over to use and possess up to one ounce of marijuana on private property.
