Man Faces Murder Charges in Pit Bull Attack

A California man is facing murder charges after his pit bulls attacked and killed a woman near Los Angeles. Maria Devitt, 63, was out walking or jogging on May 9 when four dogs set on her and ended her life with “150 to 200 puncture wounds and sharp force trauma across her body.” Since the animals themselves cannot be charged, the law has come down on their owner instead. Man Sues His Maybe-Wife for Vicious Housecat Attack

A Chicago-area man is suing a woman for $100,000, claiming that her cat attacked him in 2011. Pit Bulls ‘Inherently Dangerous’ Says Maryland Appeals Court

In a case being closely watched by animal advocacy groups and property owners, the Maryland Court of Appeals has ruled that pit bulls (and pit mixes) are “inherently dangerous” and their owners and those in control of the dogs’ presence on their property (i.e., landlords) are subject to “strict liability” for injuries and damages caused by the dogs. When Good Dogs Go Bad: Dog Bite Lawsuits on the Rise

Dog bite incidents are on the rise, and so are the insurance claims and costly lawsuits that often follow.
