Anti-Abortion Attorney General Stripped of Law License

The Kansas Supreme Court has unanimously voted to indefinitely suspend the law license of former Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline for ethical misconduct in his prosecution of abortion providers. Although the state’s legal disciplinary administrator recommended that Kline be disbarred, the high court found that indefinite suspension was the “appropriate discipline.” Kline can reapply for his license after three years, but the Supreme Court must give its blessing. Judge Blocks Ariz. Attempt To Defund Planned Parenthood

A federal court shot down an effort by Arizona to block Planned Parenthood women’s health clinics from receiving Medicaid dollars. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a district court ruling that Medicaid law giving recipients free choice as to where to spend their health care money means that the state has no right to keep it from going to Planned Parenthood. Kansas Abortion Law Challenged on Free Speech Grounds

Planned Parenthood has scaled back its federal lawsuit against Kansas’ sweeping new abortion law to home in on a specific free speech issue. The suit is now focused on a new requirement that abortion providers link their websites to a state website that features hotly contested claims about abortion. Planned Parenthood Defeats Defunding in Indiana

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit on Oct. 23 said Indiana could not enforce a 2011 state law that barred abortion providers – including Planned Parenthood – from receiving any state or federal funds. It would have stripped all Medicaid funding from any health care provider that provides abortion services, among many others.
