Why Do People Dislike Lawyers?

“We Only Have Ourselves to Blame”

I am often told “lawyer jokes” by friends, business associates, mere acquaintances and even a client or two.  We’ve all heard them:

Q: What’s the difference between a good lawyer and a bad lawyer?

A: A bad lawyer makes your case drag on for years. A good lawyer makes it last even longer.

 

As is the case with all humor, there has to be a little bit of truth to make a joke funny.  That being said, have we as lawyers contributed to making ourselves the butt of jokes? I have found there are three activities that lead to the distaste for lawyers: (Click here to read more)
