More Women Initiating Over-50 Divorces Than Men, Study Shows

People have been studying and
thoroughly analyzing marriage and divorce for generations, and it seems
that there is always a new angle or way of looking at these issues.  One
of the more recent phenomena to come about is known in common terms as
the ‘gray divorce’, where people who are older than 50 years old decide
that they want to go their separate ways after spending decades inside
of a marriage.

A
recent study was released that showed that while the divorce rate in
the United States overall remains one of the highest in the world, it
has recently been lower than its recent historical trend.  However, the
rate of divorce for people over the age of 50 has more than doubled over
the past 20 years in the United States.  This trend is seemingly
consistent with other cultural norms of the Baby Boomers, who have
always been independent and unafraid of seeking new pleasures, according
to sociologists.

Perhaps
the biggest surprise that was uncovered by those who were performing
this study at Bowling Green State University was that of those over-50
divorces in the United States, more women had initiated them over the
past 20 years than men.  Those who have seen these results have
indicated a general interest level in finding out more about that
statistic.

When
people who have been together for many years decide to obtain a
divorce, they may think that their situations are relatively simple.

regarding custody and child support would be moot.  However, there can
also be decades of assets that need to be divided properly and fairly,
and this can become complicated for just about any couple that has spent
any time accumulating wealth.
