Study Reveals Video Games Cited More Often as a Reason for Divorce

When people study the leading
reasons for divorce, there are certain causes that remain much more
constant than others.  The top of the lists still almost always include
communication problems, financial difficulties and conflict and general
categories such as unreasonable behavior.  According to a new study, it
seems that one particular activity that falls within the realm of
unreasonable behavior is becoming a more common reason for divorce.

That
behavior is playing video games.  According to a study performed
recently by Divorce Online, more than 15 percent of spouses who said
that they pursued a divorce because of unreasonable behavior by their
partners specifically cited habitual video game playing.  One year ago,
that percentage stood at approximately 5 percent, and this spike in
gaming as a cause for divorce is drawing scrutiny from some groups and
serious concerns from others.

Specifically,
groups that are reacting to the results of this somewhat controversial
study strongly are doing so because they feel that video games are
merely an escape from other marital and life problems and not generally
the problem themselves.  Instead of more ‘traditional’ forms of escapism
that included drinking and other activities, more people are turning to
their video gaming systems as an otpion for relief from stress.  Of
course, others are stating that these findings support the notion that
video games are a destructive force in modern society.

this process need to make sure that they deal with such a situation in
as direct and proactive a manner as possible, even if it is extremely
difficult in an emotional sense.
