Most Dangerous Highways for car accidents in AL

Although the number of traffic deaths on Alabama’s highways is lower than it has been for more than 20 years, car accidents still happen all the time on our highways. State agencies and individuals have joined together to make the highways the safest they can possibly be, but combinations of unsafe driving conditions and reckless or negligent driving behavior can still result in grave personal injury to you or someone you love.

Although the number of accidents in urban areas in AL is significantly higher than the number of accidents in rural areas, the number of fatal accidents is more than twice as high in rural areas.

The measures taken by the government to make highways safer have been very effective, but the rural roads remain unsafe. Country roads tend to be narrower, with sharper curves and more dramatic inclines, all of which makes traveling on them more dangerous.

Where do most highway accidents occur?

Mobile County, Alabama is the county with the most fatal car accidents in the state of Alabama, where major Highways 10 and 65 converge. Accidents have also been seen happening on Routes 90 and 16. Jefferson County, including parts of the highly populated areas of suburban Birmingham, reports accidents on Routes 7 and 78.

It is important to remember, however, that while some areas have more accidents than others, and in some cases it is the fault of the road – for example, US Highway 43 has seen an above average number of car accidents due to hydroplaning, and authorities are now examining the construction of the road for drainage issues – there is no reason to imagine that one highway is much safer than another. The factors that truly matter are the drivers, and there can be negligent, reckless drivers on any road.
