23 Year-old Dies Due to Dialysis Drugs

Dialysis Treatment

Dialysis is a treatment given to patients suffering from
chronic kidney failure. The treatment is prescribed to patients who have only
15% of kidney function left. Dialysis is a resourceful option as many people
who have kidney failure must find an alternative method of cleaning their blood
of any toxins and wastes and controlling blood pressure. Dialysis treatment is
needed about 3 times a week for 3 to 5 hours per session depending on the
patient’s condition. While there are some young patients receiving dialysis,
most patients are typically around 65 years old.

GranuFlo and
NaturaLyte

There are a couple types of dialysis treatments available
today, including hemodialysis. In hemodialysis, the patient’s blood is run
through a dialysis machine where it is filtered and then transferred back to
the patient’s body through a tube. With this treatment, special chemicals are
needed to help filter the blood and maintain a safe level of chemicals in the
blood.

Two special chemicals used during hemodialysis are GranuFlo
and NaturaLyte, manufactured by the Fresenius Medical Care center.
Unfortunately, these two dialysates were causing significant damage to
patients. The drugs have a higher bicarbonate level and doctors were
misinformed by the manufacturer. As a result, doctors were accidently
overdosing patients and causing base poisoning. Numerous patients were
experiencing:

?
Stroke

?
Coma

?
Confusion

?
Vomiting

?
Cardiac arrest

Young Dialysis
Patient

While most dialysis patients are typically middle-aged and
older, there are dialysis patients who are on the younger side. Unfortunately,
one of the patients who received treatment with one of the harmful dialysates
was only 23 years old. This patient was hospitalized for cardiac arrest shortly
after dialysis treatment. The 23 year old from Panama City, Florida died on
July 23, 2010. Not all patients who suffered due to the drugs were older with
weakened immune systems. Some were younger, healthy, and had their whole lives
ahead of them. There have been a lot of drug and product recall lawsuits as of late.

Dialysis Lawsuit

Unfortunately, this case is just one of many. Several
victims are filing dialysis lawsuits on behalf of a deceased family member who
died from the treatment. If you or a family member recently suffered injuries
after use of the drugs, you should contact a dialysis lawyer or a Drug Recall Lawsuits attorney immediately.

A dialysis lawyer will discuss your options and legal rights
with you. You may want to file a dialysis lawsuit if you suffered stroke, coma,
or cardiac arrest within 48 hours of treatment with GranuFlo and NaturaLyte.

Find out why drug and product recall lawsuits seem to be on the rise.
