Avoiding Truck Accidents in Fresno

Truck accidents are among the most dangerous kinds of accident you can suffer, and while there are legal means to receive compensation for medical bills as well as pain and suffering, no amount of money can truly replace your life and the life of your family.  With this in mind, we would like to some helpful advice about driving in the vicinity of trucks that may make your next trip just a little bit safer.

Blind spots/no zones

Many Fresno trucking accidents are caused when another vehicle is in a truck’s blind spot.  A blind spot is a part of the road that a driver cannot see easily.  Even with the assistance of side and rearview mirrors, no driver can see the entire road to the left, to right, and directly ahead or behind.

Blind spots are also referred to as “no zones” because they are, quite simply, zones you should not be in.  Generally speaking, the size and location of blind spots vary greatly with the size and shape of the vehicle driven.

Truck drivers are typically handicapped with four blind spots, and even the most seasoned and careful truck drivers may miss your car if you happen to be sitting in one.  Here are the truck blind spots you should avoid most:

  • Directly to the left of the truck’s cab – you may be too low for the driver to see directly, and too far forward for him or to see in his mirrors
  • Directly in front of the truck – especially if you are driving a compact car or other small vehicle
  • To the right of the truck’s trailer – the speed and proximity of vehicles in this area is particularly hard for a truck driver to judge
  • Directly behind the truck – trucks, unlike passenger cars, lack rearview mirrors, and therefore cannot see what is directly behind them

As a rule, if you cannot see the truck driver through the truck’s mirrors, then the truck driver cannot see you and you are therefore not in safe position on the road with respect to the truck.  Trucking accidents in Fresno can happen everyday, so make sure to drive defensively and stay away from trucks’ blind spots.

Even the most responsible and careful drivers can be involved in an accident with a truck, which can result in serious injury or death for them or their passengers.  If you or a loved need the services of a tractor trailer accident lawyer in Fresno, contact the offices of Rodney C.
