Many times, those killed in car accidents are the youngest among us.

Many times, those killed in car accidents are the youngest among us. Taken away at their prime, with so much hope and promise, it can be devastating for the families and friends of those who pass in an auto accident. One such example was USC- Aiken basketball player Javonte Clanton was recently killed in a car accident. Clanton got on the road right after the USC-A Pacers lost to Augusta State in the NCAA Division II tournament. The accident took place along Interstate 77, near Ripley, West Virginia. Investigators believe he fell asleep at the wheel.

Randy Warrick, USC-Aiken Athletic Director said, “At this point, winning or losing an athletic contest to me doesn’t mean a whole lot. There’s certainly more important things out there for all of us.” Student athletes on campus say losing Javonte was like losing a family member. Friend Timothy Costanzo said, “It’s sad to see a fellow athlete pass away, obviously. Athletes put a lot of work into their sports, they represent their schools and to see something like this happen is tragic. “

During a recent USC- Aiken baseball game, there was a moment of silence to remember Javonte. Red ribbons were handed out in his honor.
