New Jersey Bicycle Accident Lawyers Discuss Cyclist’s Altercation with Angry Driver

South Philadelphia resident, Ron Deets, claims he was attacked on his bike by a man driving a black SUV after an altercation that started on Pine Street in Center City Philadelphia. While he was not severely injured, Deets, and other people who witnessed the events, feel that the driver should face assault charges. Drivers and cyclists in Philadelphia have had an ongoing battle over bikes lanes and how the rules of the road are enforced.

According to Deets, he was riding in the bike lane travelling down 19th Street, when the driver of the SUV cut him off. Deets tapped the car to make the driver aware of his presence on the road, which apparently enraged the driver.  The driver then followed Deets to the next corner and hit his back tire.  After Deets confronted the driver, the man got out of his car and allegedly punched Deets in the face. The exchange ended with the driver dragging Deets from his bike across Pine Street. Deets, and other witnesses, were shocked by the man’s aggressive behavior.

A bystander witnessed Deets being dragged from his bike, and recorded the events on his phone. Police were called to the scene, but because Deets showed no signs of bodily damage, no charges were filed. If Deets intends to pursue legal action, he will have to file a civil criminal complaint against the driver.
