New Jersey Personal Injury Lawyers: Amtrak Train Accident Slices through Car

The driver of a Honda Accord, and the two passengers in the car, were lucky to be alive after the driver attempted to speed across the train tracks while the gate arms were still down. The train hit the rear of the car, slicing it in half. Miraculously, no one in the car was seriously hurt. The accident happened in Jacksonville, Florida earlier this month.

The driver of the car, and a male passenger suffered minor injuries including some scrapes and road rash. A female passenger was thrown from the car when it was ripped apart. She suffered three cracked vertebrae, but is expected to recover. The driver was issued a ticket for almost $300 for attempting to cross the tracks while the gate was still down.

The motorist’s father went back to the collision site and collected some of the debris from the car. He said he planned to give it to his son as a stark reminder that his irresponsible actions could have cost him his life and the lives of the other two passengers.

No one on the Amtrak train was injured, but the engine was slightly damaged, causing a four-hour delay. The incident is under investigation by the Jacksonville sheriff’s office.
