At Galfand Berger our Phildalephia workers’ compensation attorneys represent injured workers throughout Pennsylvania when their Workers’ Compensation benefits are threatened or denied. Our workers’ comp lawyers know from experience that workers’ compensation is the most important right injured workers have to support themselves and provide for their families when they suffer a disabling work-related injury or disease. Yet, workers are being “shortchanged” and cheated because they do not know their rights. In order to guarantee these rights, it is necessary that each local union establish a Workers’ Compensation Committee.
In 1999, ten out of every hundred workers employed in the United States suffered a work-related injury. Nine percent was the national average. In blue collar industries, the injury rate was even higher. This means that almost one out of every ten workers in your plant or facility will sustain a work-related injury each year. One out of ten workers will look to the workers’ compensation system to compensate them and provide for their families while they are disabled. Workers need advice and assistance to receive their Workers’ Compensation benefits. Who is going to help?
No one can imagine a union without a grievance committee. Without a grievance committee, who would see that the contract which you have fought for and worked so hard to achieve is honored and followed? The grievance committee makes certain that the company is living up to its contractual obligations. A Workers’ Compensation Committee makes certain that injured workers are getting their full benefits under the law. The Workers’ Compensation Committee is the “grievance committee” for the injured worker. A Workers’ Compensation Committee member assists injured workers through the Workers’ Compensation system, makes sure they receive their full legal benefits, and helps them to return to work as soon as possible.
