The Importance of Immediate Medical Treatment

Were you recently injured? Did your injury require emergency care? Did you schedule an appointment with your primary care physician?

Whether you are involved in a car accident, a slip and fall or another type of accident which caused you to suffer an injury, no matter how minor, it is important that you seek immediate medical treatment. Even if you believe your injuries do not require emergency care, make sure to immediately call your primary care physician to schedule an appointment. It is extremely important for a doctor to assess your injuries, preferably a physician that is familiar with your prior medical history. Every individual’s body reacts in different ways to a trauma. You may not even experience pain for several days after the accident and therefore not know the severity of your injuries. For these reasons, you should be evaluated by a physician immediately after you are involved in an accident.

No insurance? Do not let that stop you from seeking medical treatment after an accident. New urgent care facilities are being built every day in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Most of the major hospital affiliations offer free clinics as well. If neither of these options are available to you, most hospitals and physicians offer reasonable payment plans in order to allow you to receive the care you need.

When you meet with a physician for the first time, tell the doctor how the accident occurred and what body parts were affected in order to ensure the doctor is able to properly assess your injuries. Also, if this is your first time meeting the doctor, make sure to provide the physician with your full medical history. Once the physician has been able to conduct a full evaluation of your injuries, he or she will provide you with treatment recommendations. It is extremely important that you have any tests performed that the doctor ordered and that you see any specialists that your doctor refers you to for further treatment.
