The crash was reported about 12:45 p.m. on southbound Richmond Parkway between Gertrude Avenue and North Castro Street.
"Our preliminary investigation reveals that the vehicle was traveling northbound on Richmond Parkway when it lost control, skipped over the raised center divider and collided into the school bus," Richmond police Sgt. Bisa French said.
The bus completely crushed the pickup, killing both the passenger and driver of that vehicle. Investigators said one of the victims was a man, but the sex of the other could not immediately be determined.
No children were onboard the bus when the crash occured and the bus driver was not hurt, California Highway Patrol Officer Peter Van Eckhardt said.
The CHP and Richmond Police shut down the southbound lanes of Richmond Parkway, from Pittsburg Avenue to Castro Street, until about 6 p.m. for crash investigation.
