Who Do I Call If I Had an Accident in a Walmart Store?

Do you know what to do if you get hurt at Walmart? The corporation sees injuries such as slip and falls so frequently that people sue it daily – almost hourly, USA Today reported.

Step 1: Notify Walmart Management

This one might not be a call per se, but it’s still an important step. You should always notify store personnel of a slip and fall accident, even if you’re able to get up without help.

For one thing, reporting the accident begins the process of documenting that it happened. It’s often surprising to learn just how frequently defendants and insurers try to argue that legitimate claims involving real falls are made up – in spite of the evidence.

Don’t give the store the chance to doubt you. Report the injury right away.

Besides, letting Walmart’s employees know about the accident could get them to take safety a little more seriously – and stop someone else from getting hurt like you did.

Step 2: Call a Doctor (or an Ambulance)

The first call you need to make is for medical help.

If it’s clear right away that something is wrong, your best bet is to call 911. A slip and fall injury can be just as serious as an injury suffered in any other kind of accident. Broken bones need to be set correctly so they don’t start healing wrong. If you experience acute or radiating pain, numbness, or weakness, you need to seek treatment promptly. Some injuries even require surgery, so don’t wait to get help.

Otherwise, call your doctor. Even if you think you’re going to be okay, your peace of mind is well worth a visit to your family physician. If anything seems wrong – or if your soreness gets worse – your primary doctor can send you for tests and refer you to the specialists who are best suited to treating your injuries.

Whoever you see for medical care, you want to make sure that your medical records document your condition. If you need to pursue a slip and fall claim against Walmart, you’ll need evidence that the fall is what caused your injuries.

Step 3: Call Experienced Walmart Slip and Fall Lawyers

Walmart isn’t the kind of company that’s in a rush to settle a slip and fall claim so it can avoid a lawsuit. In fact, the corporation makes it its policy to fight just about every case against it in court.

This means Walmart is one defendant against which you really do need an experienced attorney. Otherwise, you’ll wind up with just a tiny fraction of what you deserve – or, more likely, nothing at all.

Choose a lawyer with plenty of slip and fall experience, one who is familiar with Walmart’s policies and practices – and who knows how to stand up to them.
