Route 48 which runs east-west through the Town of Southold has unfortunately been the site of several tragic accidents over the past few years. The combination of the 45 mph and 55 mph speed zones with traffic attempting to cross or make u-turns can make the roadway quite hazardous. For good reason, the Southold Town Police closely monitor the traffic on this road.
As I drove to and from the Southold Town Justice Court this past Friday morning on Route 48, I passed patrol cars three times in a 10 mile stretch. The first pass was by a patrol car that had an eastbound driver pulled over near the end of the 45 mph zone. The next pass was by a patrol car monitoring westbound traffic that was parked off the south side of Route 48 in a location just after the start of the divided highway in the 55 mph zone. The final pass was by a patrol car also stationed off the south side of Route 48 near the beginning of the 45 mph zone. Clearly, Southold Town Police maintain close surveillance of cars traveling on the divided highway portion of Route 48.
We represent drivers who receive speeding tickets and traffic tickets which are handled by the Southold Town Justice Court. Drivers with such traffic tickets may contact our office for a free consultation on the best way to respond to the ticket.
